Following the cancellation of the 2013 K-100, Hostelling International made two donations to benefit flood rebuilding. One donation to the Friends of Kananaskis will be used to rebuild some of the trails used for leg 9 and 10 of the race. The other donation to the Village of Longview will be used to rebuild the washroom facilities in the campground that is made available for K-100 teams on the Friday before the race.
The Kananaskis 100 Mile Relay Race (K-100) is as a major fundraiser for Hostelling International - Canada - Pacific Mountain Region, celebrating 25 years in 2011. The Pacific Mountain Region is part of the International Youth Hostel Federation's network of over 4000 hostels in more than 80 countries. Hostels provide affordable, quality accommodation and services for guests of all ages and nationalities. Alberta and BC hostels are ideally located for guests to enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities including cycling, hiking, and skiing.
Funds raised by the K-100 are used to maintain and develop regional hostels and fund special projects according to the organization's mandate.
